    Food Delivery Apps: Tiered Pricing

Uber Eats and Postmates have recently announced a new tiered pricing structure, with 15%, 25% and 30% fee plans. They aren’t the first to use this type of system as DoorDash launched its three-tiered commission fee structure in April, and Grubhub also offers tiered commission plans. These new plans deviate from the single “marketplace fee” that were used in the past.

With the new tiered plans, restaurants can now also list different menu prices on the Uber Eats app than they do at the restaurant. Some key details on the different prices of Uber Eats:

    • “15% “Lite” fee plan is for restaurants that are interested in low-cost delivery fulfillment
    • The 25% “Plus” and 30% “Premium” plans:
Include reduced delivery fees for consumers, increased visibility on the Uber Eats app, Uber pass benefits
      • These tiered commission fee options could also be the companies attempt to find a loop hole to stop the stream of delivery fee caps local governments are implementing across the country.
