Meta has taken on the latest attempt to overthrow Twitter and it seems to be working. Threads has broken records with a 100 million signups in the first five days of its launch.

Threads is directly tied to your Instagram account. Currently, there are no paid ads and it has basic functionality. Users can post 500 characters in one post on the app. The post supports images, videos, and GIFs. A Thread post supports up to 10 media items.

Hashtags, search, chronological feed, and higher functions are being rolled out as the app continues to gather more users. Threads will also become a “decentralized social network, ” allowing the platform to integrate outside the Meta servers.

There have been talks of monetizing Threads once the app hits 1 billion users, but we’re still waiting on how that would look.
