Last week was big for the AI industry as Microsoft and Google hosted competing events to showcase their AI projects to the public.
Microsoft killed it with the Bing app now ranked in the top 10 on the U.S. App Store and took the No. 2 spot in Productivity apps right behind Gmail. The company jumpstarted their ranking by cleverly introduced a waitlist for the AI-powered Bing that required people to set Microsoft defaults on their PC and download the Bing app. Before the AI announcement, Bing was almost invisible, ranked all the way down at #160 on the productivity app chart.
Google, meanwhile, lost $100 billion in market value as Alphabet’s stock fell after their ad with the AI’s mistake aired ahead of the company’s press event. In the ad, Google messed up with its rival AI, Bard. In a published demonstration of the technology, Bard shared a wrong answer to a question about the James Webb Space Telescope.
While the big race in AI apps is still between Google and Microsoft (via OpenAI), AI will soon find its way into a number of mobile apps through integrations.
