Google Cloud announced a new retail search that gives retailers and buyers an improved search functionality that is customized to their own needs. The goal is to give consumers a more enjoyable search experience, where they are more likely to get results that are more tailored to them rather than content they are not interested in. For businesses, this will direct the appropriate consumers to their site and improve cost per click rates, click rates, and revenue per visit.
It was estimated that search abandonment was costing retailers more than $300 billion a year. Consumers have been frustrated with their search experience, with 94% of them saying they’ve received irrelevant results and 85% of that group claiming they look at a brand more negatively after this happens.
How the new retail search works is that it converts purchase intent across retailer’s own website and mobile apps by understanding the consumer intent and wants. The new search is a fully customizable solution that allows retailers to provides helpful search experiences, including auto-complete, personalized results, and relevant promotions.
